Bearing in mind the AML/Mercedes-Benz collaborative agreement, could this be our future?
At least there is no 'stuck on iPad', so that is one PHer's objection resolved. Instead, the display screen covers the entire width of the dashboard, including a large screen saver for the front seat passenger.
The most important part of the car is the infotainment system (ugg). The designer is thrilled and does not stop talking about it for over 10 minutes (17:30 to 28:24). We are shown menu after menu after menu. Jay Leno begins to look rather bored by the end of his tuition, but does not appear to ask the crucial question, "Is it all right for me to take my eyes off the road, to go through all these menus for 10 minutes?".
The designer particularly likes the vast choice of selectable interior lighting colours. Jay Leno then asks about the flashing blue light behind. The designer, remembering his employer, ignores that joke.

I prefer driving cars, experiencing whats happening around you & the connection to the car & road and the interaction of the suspension, tyres, steering
unfortunately that leaves me cold and completely disinterested in future cars

My 2009 Audi S8 had the screen thing right. A better, cleaner version of the "pop-up" screen is best. It is nice to have access to some of the newer tech features without having them overwhelm the driving experience. In my opinion it would be a huge mistake for Aston to mimic the current MB layout but I guarantee my opinion means nothing.

I see that you have a passion for British built cars. No locally built V8 supercars then? That era has ended I understand. A UK club racer obtained one of those cars a few years ago and was able to win races with it. Now there are several racing, so he does not have it all his own way anymore. They sound great at maximum revs though.
Being the cave man that I am I’m afraid iPad digital computer screens in motor cars leaves me feeling somewhat cold, the future is not a bright one for cars from where I’m seeing things heading!
The pinnacle of Aston Martin interior design for me was the V12VS (I believe the 3rd dashboard version in the Vantage and also Vanquish 2) which had the haptic buttons, it still looks very modern and fresh to my eyes, I think it’s a shame it was not installed into the new Vantage as I think it’s a far smarter job than the cluttered interior it currently has. A sat nav/infotainment screen that folds away I think is a good thing, Bentley have done a wonderful job on the new Continental with that.

It's all so depressingly crap isn't it? The use of touchscreen controls on cars should be banned, they are plain dangerous and distracting.
Analogue dials add character and individuality.
I love the dials on my V8V and in the next couple of months I should finally have my next car on the road (after many years building it). Looking forward to being sat in front of this dash:

yes have a passion for British cars - as you say the Aussie muscle is too agricultural, anf=d Ive had plenty of RS audis which while very accomplished just lack character

If I have to have a screen then prefer it 'Landscape' rather than 'Portrait' as in the Tesla's. My reasoning for this is simple, we spend our lives looking at Tv's, computer screens etc. which are all Landscape so to me it makes sense the screen in your car be the same.
I would much rather a Tesla screen be Landscape.
Having said all this, I'm not a fan of having to troll through menu's to access what should be available at the press of a button. I also don't like all these back lit areas around the car.

Aside from anything else, touch screens date very quickly and will not age as well as analogue dials. Its another way for manufactures to engineer short lives into cars so that you buy a new one sooner. Totally anti-green tech.
Horrible. At this rate I genuinely don't think I will ever want to buy a new car again. If one day I live somewhere where I need a non-ice AM as a daily, then I am not sure what I would buy. Probably the cheapest hunk of junk as literally non of the milk float tech cars do anything at all for me.

Already studies are showing that car distractions such as touchscreens, car internet etc.. are causing more accidents than drunk driving. No need to add layers upon layers of screens and menus... . It suits the IPAD generation, but they don't buy cars anymore, they share cars... .
For convertibles even worse when you have the full sun blinding out all indicators such as speedometer etc... :-)

In case you have not watched the video, you will be relieved that the Mercedes screen (could it really become a future Aston Martin screen) is indeed landscape. In fact it ought to be called stretched landscape. There is even an area for the passenger to play with.
Not something that I would want in my sports car.
Mr Jay Leno was reviewing a car (might have been a Koenigsegg), which did have a touch screen, but all of the basic controls were still knobs and buttons, so once located, could then be adjusted without looking away from the road. The distraction of multiple menus to adjust heater, air con. etc., is such an obvious danger.
