Rear suspension issue....
Discussion
So, out on a drive this afternoon, after not-missing a pothole, the car no seems to groundout on the nearside exhaust if we went over anything bigger than a Rizla.
On closer inspection I can barely get my hand in between the wheel and wheel arch on the rear nearside. On offside there is plenty of room for my hand.
I have gaz gold adjustables - could it be as simple as that needs readjusting? Or is it more likely something has gone snap.
I don't have ramps or a jack that would now fit (body too low!) - so I guess off to Dom in Coventry.
And I was off for a blat in the peak district tomorrow. Bah!
TIA

Sorry to hear that! The state of roads in this country is shocking!
If the ride height has been affected, it’s possible that a spring has broken.
I hit a pot hole a while back, which caused the NSF shock to dump its oil - not too bad, as they were due for replacement anyway.
BTW, I haven’t tried, but apparently there’s a way to claim from councils if you’ve damaged your car due to failed road surfaces.
I can imagine that it’s a lengthy process though.

As a rough guide you should get 3 fingers between tyre and arch with a standard setup, roughly 70mm ??
As for claiming from the council then yes you can do it, I burst a tyre recently on my daily, but you need photos and measurements as well as being able to describe where the pothole is, to claim look on the councils website, basically it takes you to an insurance company, but I got a cheque for a new tyre within the week

Update:
Got the car into Center Gravity in Atherstone for diagnosis, suspension service and full geometry setup by Chris.
The RL bump stop was broken and the RL damper needed rebuilding.
From a diagnosis point of view the summary was:
Now before the pothole incident I thought the car handled quite well.
But, Bl00dy 'ell I have a new car! I didn't realise how much I had to fight the car to keep it straight before. Also, the high speed stability is now awesome, and B road driving is now such a pleasure.
This is by far the best upgrade I've done to the car - staggering.
I know Chris (and Pete) mainly deal with Pork, but they know their way around TIVs as well.
I cannot recommend them high enough.

From a diagnosis point of view the summary was:
- ride height too low front and rear
- non of the wheels pointed in the correct direction
- non of the wheels pointed in the same direction
- camber, caster, toe all over the place
