Speakerphone why?

Just sat having a bit of cake and the table over from us has 3 people all on calls at the same time all 3 on speakerphone to make it even worse there all from Essex init! I dont want to hear your side of the conversation let alone both sides of 3 conversations at once!

It first started with The Apprentice, but they did it so the TV audience could hear both sides of the conversation, which makes sense.

In normal use, it only makes sense if you're at home and the whole room is talking to the grandparents or similar.

I've noticed people using 'facetime' are often responsible for the dubious benefit of having to endure both sides of other peoples telephone conversations.

Last time that happened, I put on an audio book with that slightly robotic Alexa/Cortana/Google voice. They got the hint.

It might have been the seriousness of the book (it was about PTSD) that helped to set the right mood.

My ex did it for pretty much all calls. Apart from the annoyance it causes people nearby, 90% of the people she would speak to would end up saying : I can't hear you properly - are you using speakerphone?

She was convinced that using the phone "normally" would mean she died from a brain tumour or similar..........

It is fking annoying, and it seems to be more and more common now.

I blame Americans. If you go to the US, most people seem to use their phones on speakerphone when in public, even in restaurants and other such places, and they don't seem to give a single fk that it is annoying to everyone around them.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone would do it. Just hold the phone to your ear like you are supposed to do with a fking phone!

When I have to make a phone call, I'm really conscious of other people hearing me and listening to my conversation, and I worry about annoying other people. I can't imagine using speakerphone and having the whole world hear both sides of the conversation.

Only reason I would do it, is when at work which is quite loud. But I wouldn’t sit in front of people and do it, I walk outside and continue there.

FFS proper drives me mad. The good lady gets called by her mum at least twice a day (even though she sees her every day) about the latest Next sale or can you order fish and chips online and get it sent here as I can't do it! And it's on speakerphone without fail every single frigging time. She should do what I do and just not bother speaking to the relatives.
