I currently have a Mercedes E500, and am thinking about changing to an E61 550i.

With the 550i, what was the basic spec like? Was basic actually an option or did they have plenty of equipment as standard? Does anyone have an old brochure or similar that says what you got as standard and what was optional?

Fortunately I'm not really fussed about what colour the paint or interior are, or even the design of the wheels, but I'd hate to miss out on a better suspension system or better Bluetooth integration because there were options I wasn't looking for biggrin

Really, the must-haves for me are heated seats with a lot of adjustment points (old back injury), Isofix, parking sensors, multizone climate (I'm built for cold weather, Mrs D less so) DAB and Bluetooth integration.

For me, the nice to haves would be memory seats (Mrs D and I are very different sizes), active suspension with different levels of firm/floppy, active cruise, "hold" braking for traffic and a whopper of a sound system.

There's not many about at all... Have you found one that you're interested in?

I've been looking for them too and there's only one out there that I've found and it needs too much work (ie essential engine work) doing to it and the price is high...

IME, spec is actually fairly misery when compared to the E63/64 6 Series of that era.

I think I've got a brochure kicking about at home so will have a look to confirm the above, but iirc it's for the pre-LCI models.

EDIT to add: if you're after the 550i (rather than earlier 545i for example, the brochure may not cover this, but I'll have a look regardless).

There's a 2010 one in Swindon for a bit under £14k that looks decent... Please tell me that's not the one needing engine work!

ETA sorry that's an E60. I'd prefer an E61.

(Sorry, used to the W Vs S terminology for saloon Vs estate!)

Yup; the touring E61 550i's are rare as hens teeth

Still at work, but have located the brochure for the E60: http://www.socal28.com/bmw/2008_5_Series_Brochure.... (albeit US model).

Can't comment on how close the standard spec is for the UK models.

On AT, there is a 2008 550i Touring in Windlesham (Surrey) for £9750 at the moment, although it is a CAT-N.

It has comfort seats, heated and cooled front seats with the latter being rare. No Logic7 though going by the absence of the extra speakers in the rear doors. It looks to have the pano roof if I am peering at the photo's right. Not sure if that is a good thing....

No mention of number of owners in the ad and no mention of the Cat-N status. It is however sitting on 4 Michelin tyres and the MOT history looks excellent.

A friend had the earlier 545 version of this with Logic7, HUD, Comfort seats with the active ar5e massager option. It was fantastic and he sold it before any oil leak issues surfaced.

I've been speaking to said seller.

As good as he comes across, the cars a Cat N, it's had none of tie necessary engine work done to it and IMO at nearly £10k it's £5k overpriced...

I might be being brutal, but it's a lot of risk at that price and I wouldn't be comfortable at all laying out money for that car without c£3k slush fund in place for those bits (valve stem seals, coolant transfer pipes, gaskets, box service etc)

The one cool thing I had in my E61 550i which I've never had before or since, is you could adjust the head distribution for the heated seats. I love a warm back, but not a warm bum. No idea if that was standard or not. M Sport seats.

DSP (Logic 7) sounds system was definitely worth having, way better than Harmon Kardon in my current F11.
