Recently taken delivery of our brand new SEAT Ateca. It is the SE Technology model so has the chrome door trims/surrounds.

They are in perfect brand new condition, but I stumbled across threads regards certain VAG cars suffering from these trims becoming tarnished/discoloured very quickly including the Atecas, Tiguans, Karoqs etc.

Most stories are from local hand car washes, so more than prepared to wash myself only, just wanted to see if anyone had any first hand experience of this, or recommendations of the mildest/most neutral car shampoo which would be safest to use?

Also any washing techniques to avoid any chemicals lingering on and "burning" these very temperamental trims!!!

Thanks

It is usually the caustic or alkaline TFR's that hand car washes use that chemically stain these trims - quite probably not diluted to the correct ratio and if you are in a queue the car is sprayed then left to bake on the car in the sun, or heat from the engine where front grilles are concerned.

The same applies to alloy wheels but that's a whole different story.

Any branded retail shampoo will see you well.
Halfords sell Autofinesse products and their Lather shampoo is decent.

Cheers,

Chris
