After a catastrophic rod bearing failure, I am searching for a replacement S65B40A engine. Have any of you had a good experience sourcing a replacement engine in the UK or Europe? Ideally I'd like an engine with under 45K miles.

Can it not be refurbished?

I know of a German specialist, who comes highly recommended for this, and can also source engines:

That's an excellent question. Maybe it needs a new crankshaft? We haven't inspected the cylinders so we don't know exactly how bad the damage is. There are no holes in the engine block as far as we can tell.

I'm gutted for you OP. frown

But was it a rod failure or a rod bearing shell failure?

Assuming it was a rod shell failure it may have spun a bearing, which may not have done the block any favours.

Anyway I wish you all the best getting it sorted. thumbup

Give PWR Motors in Blackburn a try ... they're a well known and trusted breaker of E92 M3's so usually have stock of most items from these cars.

Or injector failure. Tbh it's rare for the block to be affected in my experience with bearing failures. More likely with an injector failure.

OP, maybe try Mr Vanos as well. I share your pain having been through failure of my S85 engine.
