I was sad to see an obituary in The Times for the inimitable , gravelly voiced Michael Chapman , who has died at 80. I saw him at Leeds University in 1973 - in a power cut , but neither voice nor guitar needed much amplification. He was mesmerising , and almost as good , if looking terribly old and frail , at Gateshead about 4 years ago.

Best known for Postcards from Scarborough, and FQS , but I loved Wrecked Again the most .

Oh bks, he was a near neighbour of mine - I'd not heard that.

I have seen him many times in recent years at my local cricket club, he was a very original and talented guitarist but did look very frail of late.
