I've been using Samsung phones for a little while now, and on the whole, I'm quite happy with the Galaxy S10e that I got a couple of year s ago to replace the S9 that went before it. However......

Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) else we use in the family is Apple. Two Macs (my new Mini and the family's old iMac), my iPad, Apple TV and MrsB's iPhone 8 Plus. The downside is that this means that we end up using two diaries as well, my Google Calender and her Apple Calender on her phone, and these don't sync. Despite numerous requests, she still pops everything on her phone, meaning I have to duplicate it on mine (I appreciate how much of a First World Problem this sounds as I type).

So, just upgrade to an iPhone and all problems are solved, right? Well, the issue is, I use my Samsung for filming on my YouTube channel and the camera is excellent. It's the one thing that stops me taking the plunge, and that is how good the quality of the camera is for filming. Now I wouldn't be upgrading to a new iPhone 13, but perhaps a 12, or 12 Mini would be my choice (I always liked the iPhone 5 I used to have). It would also mean that everything syncs up well for the editing I do in iMovie on my Mac Mini.

My question is, therefore, does anyone have any thoughts about the quality of the camera on the 12 as compared to my S10? Don't be fooled by the word 'filming' as I know next to nothing about cameras, so everything is just left on the default settings when I do my work. I like the fact the S10 has the zoom setting, so I need that, but in all other areas, I just need the phone to be a good quality video camera that is "point-and-shoot".

Thoughts appreciated, and flame-proof suit donned for asking such a simplistic question on here......

Have you tried borrowing her 8 Plus and filming on that? That would at least give you a perspective on what spec (the numbers are easy to find with google) is "good enough".

I run two phones , I took my wifes old iphone x when she upgraded and put a payg sim in my old Galaxy note which is has a better camera is more useful for many of the aps I use and runs nav in the car better.

Most of the time I just carry the iphone but i use both daily for reading news , apps and shopping have to say in most cases I feel the Samsung is better but the battery management/life and ease of use is better on the iphone

An 8 Plus won't be representative of the camera quality of the 12. My 8 was nowhere near as good camera wise as Mrs geeks XS. To be fair, neither is my 2020SE

OP what sort of filming as we talking? The 12 has great specs on the filming side.

Certainly, but I'm thinking the OP might at least get a perspective on how good a camera he "needs".

Filming for a car channel on YouTube. Mostly static (me to camera) so nothing too fancy required, but handy to have image stabilisation when I mount it for in car stuff.

I suspect you'll be fine with the camera on the 12

Much appreciated. Everything else seems ideal, wireless charging etc, size, etc. It's just whether I feel confident enough to move away from Samsung now!

How about we look at this another way, does your wife have a Gmail account? If so and it's configured on her iphone she can add events to the calendar in the native app and they should sync to your Gmail calendar.

Or as we do we create events in our respective calendars and invite the other regardless of app/platform.

Oh, I've tried to get her to do that! She never does it, just enters it into her iCal and then tells me about it! I send her the Gmail Calender invites when I put something in the diary, but it's more coming the other way. I know, I know, it's a ridiculous reason to consider a new phone over, but it also means that everything in the house is talking too. And when I was updating my Mac, I didn't even think about going to a PC, so I am just as bad.

Mind you, her work laptop is a Surfacebook........ smile

I have both apple and google calendars synced on my iPhone, and you can add Apple calendars to Android too via sharing.

And regarding video - aren't iPhones known to be far better for video than Android phones?
