Struggling here...

Both the cars seems to have a sort of invisible film on the windscreens that I can't shift - the best way to describe it is if it was light rain, at night and under street lights... after the wipers pass, the street lighting reveals a sort of cloudy / water spotted residue on the outside of the screens. I've tried a few things from neat Surfex HD to washing up liquid with a green scouring pad and the likes of Tardis and such like but still the smearing / water spots are evident when it rains. I'm not in a hard water area, the wipers are new and clean, the washer fluid is good quality but I'm lost as to a) how it's that ingrained, it's almost like the screen has been stained (?) yet you can't see anything with the naked eye and b) how to remove it / get the screen "clean" as it were - a solvent or machine polishing perhaps.

Any thoughts or any advice on getting brutal... ie, acetone or wire wool without risking the laminate?
