Best way to buy a shed?
Discussion
We're in need of a station car whilst we wait for our new car.
Budget is under £1k.
Is facebook market place the wild west? I'm not mechanically minded so could be sold a pup without knowing. There is a friendly mechanic chap who lives next door who will vet the car, for a small fee, so that's one thing covered.
Problem is where do I fish?
Will a main dealer sell me a px cheap?

Usual places really. I've bought a few sheds off Ebay. Search by distance from home, all at auction. Main thing to me with sheds is to get a long MOT. If/when the next test is due and it needs more money spent than is economical scrap/sell for spares/repair.
I once 'won' a 3 series for £280 with neigh on 12 months test. It had 200k miles and had it for 3 years. Great shedding.

Well, we bought a station car.
A chap three doors down is a bit of a kerbside mechanic.
He had an A3 3.2 5 door, quattro, auto, outside the house and my head was turned. 115k miles.
£1,200 and 12 months of MOT later and we now have it.
It's my 2nd VAG V6 3.2, first being an R32 Golf 53 plate I bought when 3 months old and ran for 3 1/2 years (I miss that car).
It's got a VAG history up to 92k miles and purrs.
Fingers crossed it's a good 'un. This chap turns over cars a good amount and I've never seen anyone shouting at him!

Stick to Autotrader
I’d avoid Facebook and bumtree
Keep an open mind regarding colour and spec. The less popular the colour or spec , the better the value of shed.
Don’t be afraid to travel. Offer a bit less cash without being silly. Look like you hate it even if you think it’s great.
F f sake make sure the brakes work it get them fixed first .
Enjoy!

How much is the annual tax on it?
Tax is £40pcm I think, maybe a little less.Oh, the brakes are great as is the engine. It skips around. It's not as nice as the Mk4 Golf R32 I had but it's a fun station car.
We'll use it as a trade in when we upgrade. Too much to give to our 21 year old son (for insurance purposes).
It rides so much better than the Scooby! We may be using this as a car for long journeys.

I think the advice here would be to not be too ambitious with the shed. Don't buy anything too complicated that could cost the earth to fix if you aren't too mechanically minded.
Plenty stuff in budget that would do the job and serve you well. Not too different from buying a private care at 10 x the cost.
