This is not a bad suggestion. If you are covering 20,000 miles a year, assuming the Leaf has a 100 mile range, then you'll have to charge about 200 times a year, or every other day. This won't be a problem if you install a charger and charge overnight every other day on your driveway (it takes 8-10 h to charge).

Heres a nice looking one

I wouldn't get to hung up on the road tax it'll be the smallest cost, if it was my OH doing 20k a year I'd want her in something comfortable reliable with a decent amount of go & (xenon lights cruise etc) spec.

The Astra in Elite Nav spec is the VFM buy & you'll get a nice low mileage one with a conventional auto (so far less likely to cause an issue like a dual clutch could) box:

The other good buy is the DS5 which imo is nicer than the Astra, your wife will like it.

They DS5 is a higher road tax bracket but worth the extra imo.

Now if your wife doesn't mind driving a car from the next segment up then with your annual mileage the Insignia in Elite Nav 160 spec is nigh on impossible to beat when it comes to age/spec/mileage(it'll have much better NVH too) & price:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202109117...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202108126...

Elite Nav BiTurbo 190 (same tax bracket as the 160 above)

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202109127...

SRI Nav slightly stiffer ride & a bit less spec:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202109026...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202012056...

With all of these auto's make sure there's a receipt fo a gearbox fluid & filter change especially on the dual clutch autos if there isn't one then haggle £300 off the price.

Not really as he wants something a bit faster in that thread, he’s coming from a Civic Type R & is looking at Golf GTIs, etc. Fella in this thread wants something economical for his wife & is coming from a Citroen Berlingo.

My 2013 tdi blue motion golf has been great.
£30 a year tax, 5 door, auto. Since last September I have done about 30k and averaged about 50mpg.
I paid 7k on 96k.

Yep I did & so did most that posted hence the Focus sized car suggestions, the Berlingo is quite spacious compared to a Mazda2. When you're doing upto 20k a year ride comfort low NVH good lights are all things that make that 20k a year easier hence my suggestion for the Insignia.

Keep up beer
