Documentary out as it was 25 years ago, anyone here go?

I had a ticket but went to Iceland (the place) to see a woman instead

Looks an amazing concert though, i went to the Silver Clef award winners in 1990, which was superb

Yup biggrin

Oasis were great, but the stand out for me on the day I went (Saturday) were The Prodigy.

My mate and I weren't that bothered about them so decided to decamp and head for the beer stalls (we spent a lot of time up there smile). We got to the top of the bowl just as Prodigy came on. As soon as the first beats started we spun round as it was so loud....and then the whole crowd started to jump in time. The whole set was mesmerising.

By a twist of fate I ended up moving to North Essex 15yrs later, with Braintree pretty much the nearest town...was a sad day when Keith Flint died. Popped down for the send off.

I went although I can't remember the day (it was a long time ago!) but I have vague recollection of the Bootleg Beatles playing not sure if they were on both days or not, don't think a gig of this size will ever be seen again.

I went on the Sunday, can't wait to see the documentary.

Interesting that there were only 10 arrests over the 2 days.

Perhaps it was just an Oasis on the horizon?

I was there on the Saturday. I'll look forward to the film as I don't remember it that clearly. I agree that Prodigy were as memorable as Oasis. Ocean Colour Scene and Manic Street Preachers were the other support acts that I remember seeing. Coincidentally, I saw the Manics last week for the first time since Knebworth.

The Manics were decent too.

Ocean Colour Scene were always a bit meh to me, anthem aside.

Bootleg Beatles weren't for me. Like the music but that wasn't the time for it for me... But always good to have beer break time.

Have never been a fan of the Chemical Brothers so they were also beer break time. In fact much of the day was beer break time smile

Only gig I've been to that surpassed Knebworth was Radionhead at 93 Feet East. I loved their music but was disappointed the first couple of times I saw them. Not that night!

I was there on the Sunday. I was working for The Times newspaper and managed to blag some VIP tickets. I remember getting almost to the front of the VIP bit and we stood there for hours listening to the support acts. About an hour before Oasis came on my pal and I both needed a loo break. We couldn't get anywhere near the front of the stage when we got back! I also stood next to Kate Moss at the bar.

Agree. I think it was one of those 1990s things that we just won't see again in terms of scale.

Wasn't it 'only' 125,000? Big headliners must be close to that most years at Glastonbury.

I went on the Sunday. At the time, I was still living with my folks in the next village south of Knebworth so only 2-3 mile walk to the venue. Smug satisfaction walking past a traffic jam that probably started 2 miles further south from where we lived. Any concert we didn't go to we could always listen to in the sitting room, as the sound travelled down the chimney and out of the fireplace.

Was a bit gutted that the Saturday crowd got the Prodigy too.

Not sure I can think of anything that comes even close to the cultural event that Knebworth was. Other events might have big, or even bigger crowds, but no one talks about Glasto in the same way. Is it because bands are constantly on the road these days?

I also had a ticket, but didn't go because I had Diarrhea and didn't want to risk it. True story. Not sure it was the right decision in hindsight!

A few of the lads from work (and some of their mates went); however one of them couldn't go - and I was offered a ticket on the Friday morning. I declined.......And I can't remember why.......

I went with an ex girl friend on the Sunday. I drove down from Yorkshire, seem to remember it taking ages to get there. And getting out took hours.

Fairly certain that Kula Shaker were one of the support acts, can't remember many of the others. We were sat next to Daniella Westbrook who I think may have been pregnant.

We arrived fairly late, stayed at the back for a bit then tried to get a bit closer to the front, finally got to a point where we could actually see the stage (rather than on the screens) and was surprise to see that the performers appeared to be about an inch high.So we toddled off to then back again.
Once it got dark and Oasis were on, there was a camera shot looking out from the stage into the audience, you could see the lights lighting up the crowd which appeared to be fking miles from the stage, but I looked behind me but couldn't see them, then I realised they were about 50 m in front of me, that's how far back we were.

It was a very memorable day out, and am glad I was part of it, and it's still the only pop concert I have ever been to!

edited to add that Daniella was indeed pregnant, her son was born in Nov 1996.

Now recall that Charlatans was one of the warm-up bands on the Sunday.

ETA - just had a look to see who was on what day and Saturday was the much better line-up. Per an earlier post I remember being disappointed by this, especially missing out on the Prodigy. Always seems to be the way - they release tickets for the main day which you make all efforts to secure, only for another day to be released ‘due to popular demand’, that has a better line-up.
