Following frustration with the terrible quality and reliability of the cheap copies (including the Lucas branded ones) of this part I decided to do some digging.

The OE manufacturer of this part is Intermotor. The Intermotor ones can be identified by having black bodies instead of the yellow/gold passivate finish of the cheap ones. They also have 'Mexico' stamped into the body (the country they were manufactured in). Racetech are selling the Intermotor ones at £108 including VAT.

The big discovery I made was that Intermotor's own part number for this item is 14811. A quick search on the Internet brought up this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intermotor-14811-Idle-Con... . Whilst I haven't bought one from this seller (I found one elsewhere) it certainly looks to be the real McCoy and at £25 it's a fraction of the price of other suppliers.

Interesting, I didn't know Intermotor were OE suppliers?

Just ordered the amazon one, it comes in metal body rather than the pictured black body

Thanks for this, I've had problems with my stepper motor and frankly that markup is not funny. Will see how the amazon part holds up.

So it's the cheap copy after all, and not the genuine one with the black body, and is therefore not a bargain?

Yes. (if like me you were expecting a black plastic body). It is not a bad price for the metal bodied one I think.
