Crossclimates for a Hot hatch?

Just having a quandry; Considering getting a set of Crossclimates to go with some new wheels for exclusive winter use; wondering how much of a compromise it would be and if anyone else was using them in this way.

Living in the South East, My thought is that it's mild enough to use crossclimates as winters to maintain the dry grip advantage most of the time - I'd switch to PS4's come spring.



Any thoughts? - Size is 245/40/18, Car is an FK8 Civic.

I’d say it depends on how important it is that, if it does get very cold and slippery, you can still get to where you need to be. Winter tyres last for years, especially if you only have them on when the temperature for your commutes etc drops to 9°c or below. CrossClimates are good, but winters are gooderer. And they don’t stop working as tyres if the temperatures climb. (Some people think they turn to chewing gum in warm weather. They don’t)

Good idea. I used Crossclimates as my winter tyres in Germany and switched to summer tyres when the weather warmed up. Car was an old BMW compact.

For south east yes all seasons will be fine.

Full winters i find can struggle with wet grip on mild damp days of which there are many, the only exception i found to this was when i had Vredestein Wintracs (directional very similar to a cross climate) as the winter set on a Hilux, they gripped really well no matter what the conditions.

I have both, second set of winters on one car (already had the set from the previous Subaru so may as well use them up), and plumped for all seasons on the other, unless i lived in a remote area well north in future all seasons it will be.

I used CrossClimates on my previous Audi Allroad 3.0TDi and rate them highly for year-round use. Quiet, grippy (certainly with quattro) and durable, as well as being suitable (and legal) for trips to the Alps, which I happily did.
An excellent and viable compromise to having two sets of tyres (and wheels).

I had Cross Climate on my Golf Mk7 and got rid of them - car grip was not that good and felt that it did not hold the road well

Was that in winter, which is what the OP was asking about?
