I am about to replace my current daily driver (previous S-Class) with something else. We live in a large city, car will have to live on the street, parking is always an issue. I have 2 weekend cars in an underground car park, they will also be used for business trips (usually up to 300-400 max per day, less and less due to Covid).

I am now toying with the idea of buying a mid-size SUV, a thought which is relatively new. Usually I would have gone for a FFRR, but now I am thinking....

In several cases, the baby model looks somehow much smarter than the big brother. Macan vs. Cayenne, V8V vs. DB9 etc.
In FFRR's case, I think the full version looks Star Wars Stormtrooperish, RRS with all its tasteful Halfords ornaments looks tacky, Evogue looks like somebody stomped on it. Let's not even mention the OCD-inducing rear of the Discovery...but:

I really, really like the Discovery Sport. I had it as a courtesy car for a day, and I was surprised how good it was. The proportions are wonderful, it is timeless and restrained. In a modest grey, with leather and a decent engine...I could live with it as a daily, for errands, shopping, and shorter trips like to the airport (40km). The weekend cars will stay.

So what do you think? Has anyone here deliberately chosen the baby version (Discovery Sport, Q5, Macan) over the "real thing"?

Why do you care what people think? The fact you're asking on here suggests you know you need a good dry slap.

Stop being such a masculine bell end.

To be honest with you, I think they're nice looking cars. If you feel emasculated by them, get one, and the money you save on a porsche and hair implants.

Discover Sport is beset with issues, if you believe the internet.

We found it a limp and unlovely thing after 15 years of continuous LR products, so bought a GLB 220d. Which is fine. And looks a little G-Wagen-esq.

Well, my wife did, not me, obviously as it’s a vehicle segment aimed at the fairer sex.

I kind of agree, buy the car that suits your needs and that you like, who gives a toss what other people think, all this masculine feminine bks is all a bit daft! I drive a Dacia Logan Stepway because it does what I want and I quite like it, if people think I look girly or poor or trying to be something I give zero fks

Just get what you want, it isn't tied to your masculinity.

SUVs are for softies anyway.

I did not use these girls things called "emojis", so maybe that is why you should not read my post as deadly serious but with a good amount of self-depreciating humour.

Disco Sport isn’t ‘girly’, it’s a decent looking car and I’d never associate it with being the housewife’s choice. Evoque, well, maybe but as others have said, if you like it - buy it and who gives a st what others think.

I'm no SUV lovers, but people who describe certain cars as being 'girly' are almost invariably bellends.

Are you worth less as time passes? In that case, get a Nissan Qashcow.

Is a disco sport really girly?

I opened this thread expecting a Juke or 500X, not a £35k Land Rover.

I like them but from what I have read reliability would put me off...

I often use my wife's Aygo for the commute to work and previously her Panda and I never give a thought to how I look in a car..

Get what you want..

I'm sure you're just trolling, but nothing makes a larger version of something any more real than a smaller version. Clearly you've spent a lifetime hearing differently...

Disco Sport appears to be the car of choice for the nursery mums around here.

I have no desire for an SUV, however, if I were forced to have one and could choose any I wanted, I'd have a Macan without it ever crossing my mind what anyone else thought. As SUVs go it's actually quite a pleasant looking thing.
