End of PCP Question

My PCP is going to come to an end on my current car (Audi A5) in December.

Given the current situation with new cars, anything I order now is unlikely to be available until first quarter 2022. As I am a picky so-and-so, a decent used is also unlikely to emerge in the next three months.

What happens if I order a new car today and it won't arrive until after the PCP finishes? Do I have to return the car anyway and buy something to cover the gap or would Audi FS be open to negotiate an extension? I can only see them doing that if I ordered another VAG product but I might be wrong. I can;t imagine I'm the only one in this situation.

Are you in a position to pay the balloon amount when the PCP term ends, and then part-ex the car against the new purchase at the appropriate time?

I could do, but the reliability of this A5 has been a bit poor and I really don't want to keep it beyond the warranty expiring.

Which on reflection, means a negotiated extension is not the option.

You options are to hand it back or pay them the balloon.

There is no automatic third option to keep it until you can source a replacement as VWFS will want it off their books so they can bank the profit.

If you are on a lease deal you`ll have to ring them and negotiate. If you are on a balloon at the end then once paid the car is yours , do as you please.

Or get a WBAC or similar value and if it is higher than the balloon, which it could well be in the current climate, get it MOT'd and sell to WBAC or other, pay off the balloon, and pocket the difference.

Thx for the replies. It confirms what I thought was the case.

As I have stated in another thread, one option is to flog the car as the spec is desirable and I walk away with £3k+ in my pocket and find something else to tide me over until the new car comes along.

I've certainly seen people (several) on a Tiguan forum say they've extended their PCPs while waiting for new Tiguans to arrive.

So I would guess same should happen with any VAG car if that's what you're looking to replace the Audi with.

Do this - then you've got 3k to either hire a car with if you feel you need new, or buy a decent enough car in the meantime, which will probably not depreciate at all.

Worth knowing as I need all the options available - new cars for Seeker are now a bit of a balls-ache and might take longer than the PCP to fix.

Finding something reliable and cheap is a challenge at the moment. Something moe expensive but depreciation-proof? Well, I'll probably struggle with my budget.
