I’m on Jury Duty tomorrow in Scotland (not sure if it’s different down the road)
I’ve called the number just now as it’s the night before and the pre recorded message states “You are not required to attend court tomorrow morning, please make yourself available for a phone call explaining what will be happening”
Does this mean I could be required on Tuesday?
Has anyone had this before?

You may be required on the Tuesday or indeed later in the week. There may be more than one case scheduled.
If you log on to the Scottish Courts website https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/ you can check the court rolls for your local court for the cases for the week. Jury trials will be in the form "HMA -v- name". (HMA being Her Majesty's Advocate).

Damn. Just noticed that they no longer show the HMA cases separately! You can see what cases are scheduled for each courtroom, so if your citation shows what courtroom you have to attend, you can see what cases are to call there. Jury Trials don't get mixed with Summary cases.

About 12 years ago I got picked and never made the ballot. I was hoping this was my time haha

I had exactly the same situation a few months ago. They called me at 10am on the monday and said that they'd call by lunchtime and let me know what was happening. I may need a couple of weeks off work depending on the case.
Heard nothing all day, then called them back at 4:30pm only to be told that they didn't need jurors that week.
Wasted day off work.

When I turned up for duty at Paisley Sherriff Court there were about 80 people who were in the ballot,and they narrowed it to 15 for the jury. I thought I had escaped but was number 15!
The 1 case I had was dull, you could see a mile off there was a statutory defence being raised(to carrying a knife) but the PC on the case was very inexperienced, and a second PC never showed! I suspect the swingeing cuts to Legal Aid didnt help the defence lawyer being unable to settle it too

It always was my greatest fear and while I'd like to think it was nervous jokes, the 'it is late, I will find him guilty' or 'don't like him, so guilty' lines were heard far, far too much for me.Thanks all.

To be fair though, I think we all know how you come across in court will indeed influence the jury. Not much you can do about them wanting to get home for Eastenders though.

Interesting! They must be doing the ballot without the potential jurors being present because of Covid. It would normally be done on the day of the case in open court with all present.Fingers crossed ??

That's correct, she said on the phone we would all usually be there but with COVID it's not worth the hassle.We've to phone a number tonight to see if we have been picked.
I did jury service in South London, pre covid.
I was compelled to turn up every morning by 9am, but for all but 3 days when I was actually on a case I sat about drinking tea until 12.30 before being told to come back the next day. I did have an almost amusing (in the defence arguments) drug import case, 2kg of Charlie through Gatwick in hand luggage, but found the process fascinating.
Now I’m pretty much retired, would love to do it again. One poor sod on our lot, unpicked until the last day got lumbered with an estimated 8 week fraud case, happily as I had done a case I was allowed to escape that one as I was an essential in a small business.

I called the number again last night and was advised I am not needed today but I have to call again tonight.
8 week case, bloody hell.
