I have a 420 which has developed a problem. There is something sliding around at the bottom of the dashboard on driver side.
I dont think I have dropped anything into the dashboard.

Get a spudger kit and pop the trim off. It's plastic and isn't too hard to remove -- there are youtube videos for most BMW trims.

Spudger kit looks like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/15042843428?iid=223602701...

Although some bits of *trim* actually need a torx driver to remove (that's just a fancy screwdriver).

Surely EVERYONE on PH has a set of Torx screwdrivers?

OP, I wouldn't have thought that there was much space under the dash for something to slide around in?

Are you sure it's coming from under the dashboard?

Have you cycled all the aircon controls to make sure all the various flaps are working correctly?

Have you checked all the different cubby holes for anything loose?

Have you checked under the seats? Sounds can be a bit misleading when it comes to direction.

Actually I never leave anything lying around on or around the dashboard. and I dont have any kids that would go to the front of the car.
One thing does bother me - I keep dropping coins under the drivers seat and I wonder if one of these coins has got into the seat mechanism underneath.

That sounds like a good place to start.

And please, if you resolve it, please update the thread, it's nice to see resolutions to things and it helps others in the future.

In the intervening time I have actually had the door card off my car and used new buytl rope to reseal the sponge/noise insulation that is also the drip barrier, since the car was being leaked into.

It worked fine. 3 torx screws and a load of plastic clips.
