As the title, is Autodoc the place to go to or is there anywhere better?

For which E46?

If it's an Mtech Sport, then usually BMW is the only place to source the springs, if it's an SE, then you'll find them readily enough.

If you want to lower it slightly but not stupidly, look into Eibach Pro kit springs

Consider getting new top mounts too

It's a 330cdm sport, rear spring, not looking to lower just OEM equivalent.

AUTODOC sell a good range of standard springs. I know they sell Sport/M Sport spec Sachs one for the E9x models so expect they do for the E46.

Ah yes ECP, had forgotten about them. I tried phoning a garage and he was saying that he was unsure of which spring it was and if it was a BMW only item it was going to be £120 ish for just the spring.

Mine was considerably more than that IIRC frown M Sport 2 suspension , ECP ordered them in once they decided what I had and we cross ref numbers with Real OEM etc

Real oem doesn’t list spring part numbers. Dealers use a spring table based on options.

My front spring broke earlier this year, parked up on the driveway overnight!

I never understand why owners seem determined to use an OEM spring. If they were any good, you would not be replacing a broken one in the first place!

Get a replacement from a dedicated spring manufacturer, they are both cheaper and better quality. My vote would be Eibach.
