Now I had [i]no idea[/i] that amateur film making had come so far with the advent of high tech modern equipment at domestic prices.
But a short article on the Beeb site has led me to investigate the "scene".
Blimey! There everywhere! Everything from new "Classic" Star Trek episodes to an hour long Star Wars movie ("Revelations").
So I've downloaded the Star Wars thing and intend to watch it at some point...but I'm fully expecting it to be dire - whilst being prepared to give it a chance.
So...out there in PH land...has anyone actually seen an amateur film you'd genuinely rate as being [b]good[/b]? What was it - documentary, drama, scifi, what?

not sure that you'd class it in the same category but some of the films made using the game IL2 are pretty damn good. See for yourself (probably not that interesting for those not into aircraft/ww2)

Well. I saw the movie last night.
The Special Effects were nothing less than stunning. Absolutely stunning. Sure the "real thing" is much better - but if the BBC had produced those effects for a series just a couple of years ago they'd have been over the moon...brilliant.
Shame about most of the rest of it!
The first giveaway is that the "actors" are not "beautiful"...as pretty much all American movie stars are. They are normal looking...but one can overlook this lack easily if the acting/plot/script is good...and it plain wasn't. It was not terrible - but one only comes to this conclusion because one knows it is an amateur production. As a pro movie it would have been a Golden Turkey award winner.
But I take my hat off to the filmmakers. An astonishing achievement. I understand the director want to make another - if he can get a script worth the bother it could actually be quite good...
If anyone is contemplating seeing "Star Wars: Revelations" do go ahead - its worth it simply to see what amazing things can be achieved by enthusiasts.
But its an awful film!
