So I find myself pondering the purchase of a budget Chinese EV SUV....yes, I've been looking at the MG website! yikes

By way of an explanation for this appaling behaviour; my commute is getting on for 100 miles a day, and my ill advised purchase of a thirsty old Saab is slowly ruining me. We have a driveway so charging isn't a problem, and I think it's very clear that the current EV honeymoon will start to come to end over the next decade or so, so the chance to own one and benefit from being saintly is now, before they're forced upon us all and end up costing us the same as ICE cars do currently.

So, these Chinese things. The finance calculator suggests sub £400p/m for an annual 25k miles over 4 years, happy with that. No massive deposit required and ideally just give it back at the end. What I'm interested in is how the market stands with things like part ex currently. Everything I've read recently suggests that dealers are in a good position to play hardball at the moment, the list price is the price and it's take it or leave it. I've never part-exed, buy my understanding has always been that if you're buying new you can expect a dealer to offer a flattering price for your old shed, as part of the standard haggling process. How does that work now though, are those days over?

If I can get them to offer somewhere slightly north of £1k for the aged Swede (100k miles, not pristine but not a wreck, recent tyres/brakes/MOT) then I'm happy, but if they'll offer 45 pence I'll sell it privately. I don't want to look like a twerp, obviously, so it'd be nice to have some idea of what to expect! biggrin

Hyundai Ioniq (original not the new Ioniq 5) might be worth a look, reports say they are pretty efficient, although looks are a bit marmite.

Take a look in the EV forum.

Check what we buy any car reckons your car is worth, you should get at least that for it, hopefully a few hundred more.
