Always liked Whitmarsh - he was just in the right place at the wrong time..

..Fair play to Aston, they seem to be getting some big names around them.

Mods can we change the title to Martin joins Aston? hehe

Not the best move i think. Took Mclaren to its depths, lost Hamilton set up Honda and is a man Max Mosely described as being a detail man, but the wrong detail.

18 months and he is out!

Followed him through work once whilst I was carrying a large box. He slipped through every closing door as if touching it would kill him. He knew someone was behind him too.
Never liked him after that!

I always felt he was like the person who went to a team and then it went wrong.. A poisoned chalice if you will. I may be misremembering mind...

I think you're referring to his matrix management system, which did for McLaren for many years.

Whether he succeeds or not, the hiring of Whitmarsh is a huge statement of intent, Aston Martin mean business. I believe if they slot him into the right role and give him enough freedom he'll do well.

Will be interesting to see where Aston are in the coming years and whether the current and future hirings end up bringing the success they hope for.

He was at McLaren from ‘89. He had a lot of success.

I think this is an odd hire - a good guy a long time ago but time has moved on and he’s had little success since. He exited McLaren with a significant bung which seemed to dent any real drive.

Mosley was always making barbed comments about various people in F1, but without evidence and without justification. I would treat anything he said or wrote with caution; extreme caution is your find yourself believing it.

He also had a serious problem with McLaren. Every success they had hurt him deeply.

Far too political and far too focused on himself, A big part of setting McL into the decline which they are now starting to come out of.

He took his blinking time supposedly setting this decline up. Championships in ‘89, ‘90, ‘91, ‘98, ‘99 and ‘08….

hehe

Just like Sam Michael.

Fully expecting pit stops at AM to go tits up like they did in Whitmarsh’s later years at McLaren.
