This summer the crack fractured in my early 4.2L AJP. After disassembling the engine and inspecting the block, I have reached the sad conclusion that the cylinder block cannot be saved

Therefore, I'm searching for a new block. Do any of you know where I can get that?

Btw. where and by whom were the original block casted?

I hope you guys can help, as a Cerbera with no engine is no fun !!!!

There's one at the usual place in Northumberland. Been on eBay for ages, could make an offer.

At the listed price this one makes the one on Facebook look very good value!

Is the block really knackered? Could it be stitch welded? Very skilled art though

I already wrote him, but the price is way to high and it does not look that attractive standing in the rain in a scrap yard. I'm also concerned that that may have suffered a similar defect to mine.

Thanks. That could be an option. My preferred solution would be to get a block and the upgrade to 4.7L, now where I'm "at it" any way.

Agree that looks pretty terminal, hope you find a solution,I’m just mid rebuild on my chim 450,it went in for a 12k service and a cam change, love my car but sometimes i would be quite happy to shove a grenade up it’s exhaust, but I,ll still have it when I’m to old to get in and out of it,best of luck.

Holy st! What happened to it? That looks like a major mechanical failure with bits of metal thrown in every direction.

I have a block (actually full engine) but it was used for project AJP turbo a decade ago so it's a wire ringed setup with machined liners, copper gaskets and custom 8.3:1 pistons so not ideal for anything else really, at least not without a lot of work.
Strangely is marked as a 4.2 but on opening it up the first time it turned out to be a 4.5. Apparently that's not uncommon with TVR!

Later engine then. They used 4.5 engines with 4.2 intakes presumably for the look. A friend has one with 380bhp with just some mapping.

Those are the ones to get - potentially cheaper to buy than a “genuine” 4.5, but with the superior induction of the 4.2. The standard 4.5 induction provides greater mid range torque, but at the cost of the top end of the rev range. Not having the “aliens” hoses, means greater access for fettling too.

Thomas, there's a guy on fb group who apparently has a 5.3 ajp, which I never even heard of. His name is Steve Daley. I told him to come to this forum but thought I'd let you know as well. The link below is old but he still has it for sale.

Hi, that's my engine, it was in the car when I bought it from TootallPaul, and was quite well known on here. I have had it rebuilt, but sold the car minus the engine, due to some complications with getting the whole thing put back together.

Got details of the engine and builder. That sounds interesting.
Was it BossCerbera that had the 5.0 from the factory?

Wouldn't touch that with a barge pole. Looks a bit .
