Y: The Last Man (on Disney+)
Discussion
Based on DC Comics yarn it's about a world where every man on the planet (and male animal except one) dies simultaneously one day except for 1 bloke and his pet monkey...and he just happens to be the son of the American (female) President. Everything with a Y Chromosome dies hence the title of the show. Trans people survive though.
It's about how a world with only females on it would cope. It's not pretty and it's not realistically harsh enough in it's depiction of 50% or the globe's population all dying instantly and together although it does show one aeroplane falling out of the sky (male pilots) there are a billion other things that would instantly go wrong which aren't depicted and which couldn't, at the drop of a hat, be fixed by nearby qualified females. All of the worlds Nuclear reactors/Food chains/Finances etc etc etc
Overall the first 4 episodes are slow moving and very 'talky' and it strikes me as a Sci-Fi show that has a female audience in mind although it's not particularly 'woke' or feminist - at this point.
3/10 after 4 episodes.

im the opposite of above - i'm quite liking it
its not got the over glory of american flag waving , its not ott horror/cgi , and its not banging the female drum, which it could easily do in this - its concentrating on the stories of people involved and showing some depth - there's a scene in a dry cleaners which is amazing , and certainly they could have gone for action, but instead went really touching.
i think we are overestimating any populations capacity to suddenly adapt to 50% dying in front of you within in a second (in this case men, but in any case at all) and to be able to keep everything running at "a drop of a hat"
just look at whats happening with the hgv's because we lost a few 1000 drivers in the brexit
even if you had hundreds of nuclear engineers who were still alive to go and keep things running, how do you get them to the power station when the roads are blocked up with dead people and cars and vehicles, how do you get petrol in their tanks, and do you get their kids to be looked after, and how do you feed them and give them clean water to live (and of course get over the fact 50% of their entire family was just wiped out) , how many hours do they work, how do they get paid, how do they get medical attention , and of course how do you phone them up to tell them all this when the people left on the planet who can keep the phones running are in the same boat with everything i just described .....
7/10 for me so far
A show for women/men that find the walking dead a bit much.
Same plodding about but without the dead people and not much happening.
That arse could shave and put some makeup on and it would be easier to move about.
They wouldnt have to bash so many people up.
3/10 and im struggling to think why I have seen 4 episodes.
They are throwing money at any old dross now. You think you may have missed a trick by not pitching a show to
some of these tv people.
A bit like the government getting excited about the money they can make for their pals giving them PPE contracts.
Some disney bozo rang his barman buddy and said make a show...

Decided to have a watch of this.
The only man left alive just happens to be the biggest moron on the planet.
And none of the female characters (of which there are, of course, plenty) are especially likeable.
Vaguely interested to see where it goes, but it better start getting there soon.

I’m on episode 7 and I’m barely hanging on…The only man left alive just happens to be the biggest moron on the planet.

You'd think that being reasonably good looking and having the only working dick on the planet he'd be swimming in boobs but no...apparently not...
To be fair I suspect if I were the only one left the 3.5bn women on the planet would all want to kill me within a few hours

perhaps having every male member of their family and friends dying without warning and the world going to s
t means the women are not wanting the usual thing "men think they want" - our dicks as soon as they see us. i'm still enjoying it, having the man being a total muppet is a good slant on the usual formula....
