Have to switch to full speaker mode to hear calls and it sucks...

Only solution I've found is to use earphones for calls

Exactly that, dab the blu tac over the ear piece and microphone ports at the bottom. It's unlikely that the speaker is damaged to the point it's gone quiet, it's normally tiny particles blocking it which you can remove with blu tac.

If you have the right screw driver and ten minutes of your life the speakers are a few quid on ebay and easy to do.
