Intercom systems??? any advice??
Discussion
I was wondering if anyone else uses an intercom system on there car??
I have a rush with only a small wind deflector on it so you really have to wear a helmet if your going some distance but you can't speak to the person next to you without shouting and looking a right idiot driving through nice quiet villages saying "look at the fine bristols on that" etc without them hearing you.
So, I reckon that an intercom is the way to go, but I have no experience of them and I can see that they range from 10 quid to 300.
If anyone has any advice on them, or one's that they have used it would be appreciated.
cheers

seem to be the better two on the market. You can add in stuff like GPS nav, phone, mp3 player.
They're not cheap though. I haven't used them personally but will probably get one when I build my kit so I can use it between bike/bike and bike/car etc.

andy4200 said:I have a Starcom and used it in my Ultima. I had a couple of leads made up to connect standard PC headsets to it which were much lighter and a lot less cumbersome than the ear defender types.

Functionally it's pretty much identical to the Autocom but is much better value.
Have used the Autocom system in my Grinnall, The system can be adapted to feed mobilephones, mp3 road angel and VHF radio for car to car / bike. The only problem I've come across is space inside a crash helmet for the speaker units. They are designed to go under the surface material, some helmets have very little space between your ear and the padding, which can make it uncomfortable. Of course it money isn't a problem you can get F1 style in ear headphones that are compatable.
I had the 'cheapest' OMP system (out the Demon Tweeks catalogue) in the MegaBlade when I had it. These were with velcro-in helmet earpieces and microphones.
Performance wise it was fine; it was actually great to be able to speak to the passenger in a normal voice on track days.
Downsides...these were in-helmet units so good on track but not so great for popping down to the shops.
It was surprisingly difficult to get the earpieces exactly right in the helmet. If they were even slightly off position you couldn't hear much.
It hurt! Even though the earpieces were extremely thin and designed for in-helmet use, I found them quite painful after a while as they pressed on your ears. Maybe my helmet is just tight in the lug-hole area (a shoei) but while it was manageble for 20 minute stints, I couldn't have handled much more.
So, my views of the kit I had was great for track days or shortish helmeted thrashes, but not for 'touring'. Mine was the cheapest OMP unit and the sound was fine.

I've just received an autocom driver to passenger system today and i've given it a good testing up to 125mph, on a private road of course and it was fine, it's got the plugs on it for the stereo and phone which i'll have to get the connectors for.
thanks for the advice and i'm glad I spent that extra bit of money, i think it's well worth it.
cheers.

I have an Autocom sytem WHICH I AM SELLING. The reason i am selling is i wrote my Furyblade off and have no need for it now. 1 year old and cost about 250 poonds new, 2 headsets for closed face helmets, 2 leads to connect a Garmin sat nav and a CD/MP3 player. Also has a lead to connect a mobile phone and have the box and instructions.
Its a good system and has a VOX system which adjusts to background noise.
Want about 150 poonds for it Lee 07801 495568
