Hi all,

I have a Genuine Land Rover G4/Adventure Roof rack and ladder that is coated in what appears to be a Nylon power coat from factory. Water has got underneath in places and rusted the rack & blown the coating; but for the most part, the coating is still consistent.

Dropped the rack off at the local powder coaters to be redone; whom have let me know that they can’t remove the current nylon coating with it being plastic.

Chemicals such as thinners/nitomors don’t touch it, nor does grinder/scraping or heat. Is there a particular method or chemical that can be used to strip the nylon powder coat?

Cheers,
Lund

Formic acid is what the 3d printing people use. But that will corrode some metals too.

Have you tried getting the metal too hot to touch and then scraping the coating off?
