The absolute perfect way to guarantee panic purchases of petrol is to say that there is no shortage of petrol. Seems that is working really well.

I’m told by my OH that she is currently queuing for petrol (SW London) - which we need to get a currently empty car to a wedding out of London tomorrow, so not panic buying/hoarding.

Anyone know what the motorway service stations are like? We have to make a trip up North on Sunday, back on Monday. I’ve assumed that the motorway service stations would be prioritised for deliveries. Can anyone confirm whether supplies there generally seem ok and that there is no queuing back to the slip roads?

They’re dry by us and queues blocking the roads to the ones that aren’t.

I’m going out with a pipette later to try and salvage the spills hehe

Driving to England Sunday so iv got 2 days to fight the ques. Worst case costco shouldn't be too bad since its members only. Hopefully its not dry by the time I attempt a fill up. A sure way of getting those prices increased though.

Saw a queue at an Esso station yesterday evening.

Been to Watford and back this morning and petrol stations looked normal.

Off topic, but there was an almighty tail-back on the M25 this morning due to a car fire. eek

I’ve a 300 mile drive tonight so decided to fill up last night as I didn’t have enough to get me there. My local BP had shut up entirely because of having no fuel.

Big queues at my local stations just north of Glasgow. Had to fuel our car which was near empty. Looked like everyone brimming their tank. Looks like local isolated shortages coming up.

Just got home from work in Andover Hampshire and both petrol stations I drive past had queues of the forecourts in both directions onto the main roads! The only thing missing was having all their possessions stacked on the roof! Its like a self fulfilling prophecy.

Station was open this morning when I drove past. Not too worried because I can just ride the motorcycle which runs on the sniff of an oily rag.

Industry created this problem by fundamentally undervaluing HGV drivers. Just looking back to 2018 there where already reports of driver shortages. Now they will have to pay a lot more to dig themselves out by the sound of it.

Small town in SE Scotland here.

I've just been to Asda to fill my car up (not panic buying it was under the quarter and I need it tomorrow) and it might have been slightly busier but there were no queues.

Chaos at the BP nearest me, big queues and many of the pumps out of action as empty.

I needed some fuel as down to almost the fumes so gave that BP a miss and went to a Texaco instead, it was just as busy with cars queuing into the road.

I blame the media. As soon as they splash about reports of 'breaking news' to report an issue of a tiny fuel supply issue or mention that fuel companies and/or government are saying dont panic buy the seed is sown. Out come the masses to panic buy.

I'm on just under 1/4 of a tank of diesel in my car so I need to fill up later for my weekend driving and getting to and from work next week.

Today's fill was planned before the news so I'm probably going to look like I'm panic buying when I'm not.

Managed to get diesel in the work van at 5:15 this morning so I was happy, gonna have to fill it up again though on Monday, so we'll see how things go.

Driving around today I've only seen one fuel station with a q, off the A46 between Lincoln and Newark. Other than that, things seem normal for a Friday...

Chaos around here, queues onto the main roads, stations shut, mass panic.

The media have a lot to answer for!

Was supposed to have one o they lectric cars by now, but it's not built yet...

Browsing PH classifieds for steam traction engines and there's not one left for sale. Now that's panic buying.

All dry here in Thame according to FB, accompanied by the usual hate towards anyone who dared to fill up with fuel as they normally would/need to...

The problem of course is that nobody thinks they're a panic buyer. They're rushing out to fill their cars to the brim when they don't need to, just in case the panic buyers leave the pumps dry. laugh

My parents did it during the great toilet roll crisis of 2020. They bought 5 or 6 massive multi packs "because of all the idiots panic buying" because they didn't want to be left without any. smash

There was plenty of petrol available at my local Tesco last night. But then I filled up my Range Rover and now there's a shortage. Sorry about that.

Huge queues at Asda Worksop, and Tesco Clowne.

Asda is not manned, and pay at pump only, people were filling up multiple jerry cans.
