in a particular area (rhetorical question, yes you can because of the Freedom of Information Act) - so more importantly will they give you anything back?

I think they will. In fact I think it would be easy for them with these modern IT systems. May be Data Protection issues about identifying individual properties but they should be able to do it ny postcode. I know some of the property web sites like Up your Street do burglary and theft from car figures by postcode, and things like local qualifications, age and ethnicity profiles etc.
