Those guys are bonkers. That is why I cannot wait to go to the Red Bull Air Race at Longleat on the 7th Aug.

Alan, in the film, was my instructor on the 300L IMHO the best all round pilot I have ever met.
The rush of being strapped into the 300 is like nothing on earth. It is a magical sensation that unless you have experienced it you will have no idea.
My first flights made me exhausted, totally. It was only after a regular exercise pattern did I begin to get the physical side sorted.
Sadly I will never perfect the aero's

I flew with Alan for the Pitts conversion - flying
with him again on Tuesday and Thursday for some
last minute cramming for the competition at Fenland
next weekend. Fantastic instructional style, although
the seat spacing in the Extra prevents the playful
smack-across-the-back-of-the-head-when-you-screw-up
technique he uses so effectively in the Pitts.
Mark Jeffries regularly endures p*ss-taking on
the aerobatics forum, particularly so when he
posted the links to his Exxon video a month or so
ago...but then, as he points out, he's off out to
fly aeros, paid for by someone else....'nuff said.

Topically, I went out for a blast in the Waltham
Extra 300 this afternoon with one of the chaps
practising his display sequence. I thought the Pitts
was getting my neck muscles nicely in tone - the
Extra thought otherwise. Just phenomenal.
I had a colleague who had an old Pitts Special. I regularly used to berate him for having the single seater and not the two seater.
This guy was mental. Used to take off and fly vertically through the middle of the stacking pattern of the incoming aircraft at the small airport he used to keep the Pitts at. Top bloke though.
I saw some amazing plane take off like a fighter jet at an airfield once. When I described it to this chap he told me it was an Extra 300 and was in the next league on from his Pitts. Having seen a Pitts in action, the Extra 300 must be awesome.
