Recommend a Chair for Gaming and Studying
Discussion
Son's birthday coming up (will be 13) and one of the things he has mentioned is a chair for his bedroom. Will need to be used for working at his desk as well as gaming.
Also, question of castors or round base? Room is newly carpeted so was thinking perhaps a large round base with something to protect the carpet.
Son is also quite tall and grows about 2" a week!
Recommendations please. Don't want a Costco special which loses all its charm and coating after six months.

You’ll be lucky to get a consensus here if previous threads are anything to go by!
For what it’s worth, my SecretLabs Titan is unmarked after 2 years of daily use and is very comfortable. I’m sure other options in the same price range are equally good. My lads 150 quid chair from Amazon is falling apart rapidly. You get what you pay for.

This is an easy one
SecretLab
Far from the cheapest but the quality of the material and mechanical bits is top.
I spend all day in mine for work and more time than I should gaming of an evening and nigh on 2 years later it still looks brand new despite having no care and attention by way of cleaning.
Can't recommend them enough

Whatever you do, don't be tempted by a 'gaming chair' that looks like a car racing seat - as it will be the worst chair for almost every scenario.
Without trying lots, it's going to be difficult to find one that's perfect for your son.
All the recommendation on here are going to be from people happy or not with a specific chair, as most of use won't have thousands to spend swapping chairs every 6 months. Some of the ones you'll get suggestions for will start at £500 and easily go beyond £1000.
I settled on a Herman Miller Mirra 2 (in orange & white), as we have them in the office (in black).

Different people prefer different chairs.
I have tried quite a few different ones and have currently settled on a Hag Tribute.
The chairs which most often get recommended, so seem to suit most people, are Secret Lab and Herman Miller Aeron or Mirra. ( I still have the mirra which I was using before the Hag).

I've got a Mirra 2 for the home office and it's excellent. I prefer it to my wife's Aeron.
That said, they are very expensive, so it might be worth considering a used/refurbished one:

I haven't used this company*, but they seem to have lots of brands/styles available, e.g.:

Just a thought
' *Full disclosure; I'm thinking of buying my daughter a used 'decent' chair for university, as the one in her hall of residence flat is utterly rubbish. I can't justify a brand new one (doubtless it will have a hard life...) so am looking at used.

Maybe a low end suggestion but IKEA have teamedup with ASUS and have a chair, tables etc coming out in the UK next month.

Chairs are such a mine field as really you need to spend several days+ with any one to see if it works for you - as I know all too well - I chickened out of a Secret labs one last year though when they next have a sale on I might be tempted as their short arse model has changed and now has lumbar support rather than the back cushion. Having said that I could never get on with the Herman Miller Aeron, which many people love.
I would imagine a key question is going to be budget.
To help with that I would give the suggestion of going for a refurbished chair from an office that has been closed. I bought a Steelcase Think chair off ebay last year and it is really comfortable and adjustable etc. I bought it from a seller called corporate spec https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/corportespecltd?ul_noap...
Steelcase make really good chairs and they're a bit cheaper than Herman Miller

This is for his son, remember. I suspect a Herman-wotsit would be an awesome chair but not very cool. Excellent ergonomics but they'll be slouched in it anyway if my son is anything to go by. A gaming chair is probably what is required for coolness in front of mates.

Maybe a gaming slouch/bean-chair then?
