Morning All

The garage man has told me the reverse camera on my 2013 subaru legacy is dead. hes quoted me gbp 300 for a replacement, but im seeing similar models on ebay for less than 100gbp. Now if all i have to do is replace the actual camera im wondering how difficult this would actually be ?? does anyone have any experience of it?

On my wife's Suzuki it was a question of taking the trim off the inside of the bootlid, unplugging the cable to the camera, and unclipping the old camera. That was it. Get a set of car trim removal tools from Amazon or Ebay for about £10. They're quite handy to have for all sorts of jobs.

I'm assuming it's a fixed camera and not a motorised fold away one?

I removed the broken camera from my Lexus RX400h and replaced it with a £10 Chinese reversing camera off eBay, it took about an hour, but it did include making new connections. If I was just replacing like for like it would have taken me longer to walk to the car. Very easy remove interior panel, unplug, unscrew and assembly is a reversal of the removal process.

I recently replaced a reversing camera on a motorhome.

Remove rear trim using a screwdriver. Unclip camera from mount then unclip the wiring connector.
Refitting is reverse of removal process.

Workshop manual for the Legacy in pdf available here: https://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/

I use them for my Outback and they're really useful.

I recall a dude with a Lotus doing this recently replaced his camera with a fleabay one for about £18 (changed nothing else). Lotus wanted several hundred quid.

I found the camera for £3 on alibaba later.
