I have an old, probably c.18 years old, Breitling Super Ocean. A nice watch which I have worn every day since purchasing.

A month ago, the pin which connects the bracelet to the clasp fell out and I was unable to find it (its the one that pushes in at one end). Not a problem I thought, I'll pop into Breitling and, being the ever-optimistic sort, hopefully they will replace it FOC there and then.

Unfortunately, they were unable to find the spare part so I left the watch with them.

Yesterday, and I did get warning alarm, Breitling rang asking for my email address so they could send an estimate to me.

Apparently, they no longer have spares for my particular bracelet so it will need to be replaced.......£510!!

I wish I had spent longer looking for the dropped pin now.

Anyway, I'm assuming that a half decent watch mender will be able to save the existing bracelet?

A good independent should be able to help. I had an old Japanese Seiko that required a new pin, I took it to my local jeweller who advised that the Japanese parts weren't off the shelf and would have to be shipped over. Instead they got their watch specialist to manufacture a pin and it came in at about £20 if memory serves.

What am I missing here?

When you say 'pin' do you mean one of the pins like I've circled here (on a random internet photo of a clasp)

Can you not just buy the correct length spring bar from somewhere like this?

https://perrinwatchparts.com/collections/spring-ba...

(Edit to change to a link with clasp specific spring bars)

I think I know the bit you mean the little pin actually in the clasp? I've lost of few of these on cheaper watches

Sure a decent place could knock something up ,

This is what I'm missing. Why can't OP just buy one for less than a tenner from somewhere like the link above?

Because its not a spring bar

I believe the OP is talking about this bit. I would think a decent jeweller could knock one up

Ah right, that would make sense.

OP did say "the pin which connects the bracelet to the clasp", so I was thinking as circled in red.

OP, if it's the ones in red you need, then you can probably find it somewhere like here https://perrinwatchparts.com/collections/spring-ba...

If it's the blue ones then as others have said, a friendly local jeweller should be able to sort. Either way I'd be expecting under £20!

I'm only assuming perhaps incorrectly that Breitling would insist on a new bracelet due to a spring bar

mind you Rolex insisted on a new bracelet due to a slightly bent clasp

I'll bet Steve in the "Repair Shop" would knock one up in no time at all.
