Hello!

Long term lurker here. I wondered if anyone could help or had any experience of the following.

My 2019 BMW X5 M50D (G05) has, for some time now, been smelling of burnt diesel in the cabin. So much so sometimes it gives me a headache. I have owned the previous generation X5 M50D and a number of other bmw diesels over the years and never had this issue.

I spoke with my local dealer (Norwich) who took it under warranty to investigate and they came back with nothing wrong it is just the DPF recharging. So i went on my merry way and thought it must just be me. It seems to be getting worse. Now I am the worst kind of owner as i don't go particularly far any more but it is really getting on my nerves now and i am not sure if i should live with it or stamp my feet?

Anyone had this?

Thanks

Matt

I had this on my 335d and it was the EGR Cooler. Once replaced there were no issues.

Looking here, albeit for the 3 series, this list of suspected items is long: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13...

You might have to take matters into your own hands if the dealer is taking the stance of: “they all do that sir.”

Helpfully unhelpful, but as a longstanding BMW tart and internet addict Im sure there was a recognised issue with this on X3s a few years ago

Possibly worth a Google or surf through the usual BMW forums?

Cheers

It happens on VW vans too, the egr metal flexi pipe splits, I wonder if your X5 has something similar?
