From Food & Beverage Supervisor up to Operations Manager. Mainly Food & Beverage side but have also worked in the Kitchen, Reception and Housekeeping. All at 4* branded hotels....

When I check into nice hotels, they always irritate me on arrival as they seem to spend several long minutes tapping away at the computer, peering quizzically at the screen while checking me in, as I stand there at the reception desk.

This usually causes a queue to form at busy times. Often the same on checking out.

What are they doing? Why does it take so long? What are they typing? Why do I have to sign stuff?

When I check into crap hotels for work (Travelodge, Premier Inn etc) I walk up to the desk, say my surname, they hand me the room key in seconds and thats the job done. I go to my room. Same when I leave. I mostly don't even check out. I just walk out and drop my room card in a box.

What is the difference?
