Bought car 5 months ago dealer didn’t inform DVLA of sale
Discussion
So I bought a car back in June from a dealer and after waiting for months for the V5 to come through I’ve now found out that the dealer has never informed the DVLA of the change of ownership. Both the police and the DVLA have told me this. I’ve bow had to go down the V62 route which obviously cost £25 and it’s my understanding that the liability for that is on the dealer. I have emailed them requesting that they reimburse me the £25 but no reply. I’ve looked through their reviews and found several instances of people complaining of the same thing. The money doesn’t bother me that much but the principal of it is really bugging me. What would you guys do?

I'd be on their doorstep - not as easy to ignore as an email, & time it for when they have lots of potential customers who might over hear... no need to be arsy about it, people make mistakes, but assertive questions along the lines of how disappointed you are. When my V5 hadn't arrived after about a month, I rang the dealer who apologised profusely and got it sorted.
First port of call would have been to contact the dealer and I'm surprised you left it so long! S*** happens and they can forget. Assuming they sell loads of of cars, easy to overlook if they don't have a 'process'. Only 25 squid though. Personally speaking, at this late stage, I'd just take it on the chin.

Have you checked to see if the car is showing as taxed. If it isn't you can just take the v62 into a post office and tax it at the same time. If it is taxed your in a world of pain as they contact the previous owner. If they can find them. Before they give you a v5. In the mean time you are not meant to drive the vehicle.
Why didn't you do it online with the dealer when buying the car? How did you tax it? In fact, did you tax it or have you been driving without tax for the past 5 months?
You also have responsibilities when you buy a car, you can't expect everything to be the responsibility of the dealer/seller. Making sure that it has been taxed and insured before you drive off the forecourt are the responsibilities of the new owner, and to tax it, you need check that the ownership has been transferred; ergo, new owner has to check that ownership has been transferred.
