Poll: Female 007?

Is it OK for Bond to be female? Seems to be a contradiction to the purity of the Flemming novels, but then again there were arguments back in the day that 007 couldn't be blonde, but Daniel Craig is the best ever IMO.
Personally I don't think it's a good idea but I've been wrong many times before.
Thoughts?

Surely James Bond is a man, but anyone could be assigned the 007 number.
I can see this being the change. 007 could continue as the franchise, but by dropping the James part.Anyway, so long as they keep convincing pretty ladies to shack up with them in exotic locations, I can go for a Woman in the role.
The current story direction has moved away from the possibility of "james bond" and 007 being an undercover name that's handed to new people over time, and towards that being the characters actual name and history .... hence the skyfall family home
Kinda means a gender shift isn't really on the cards

007 is a callsign but that being said it has always been James Bond's callsign and therefore would feel to me more like an attempt to cash in on the popularity of the franchise more than anything else.
I have no issues with a female 00 agent under a different number.
Best not watch the latest film then.I have no issues with a female 00 agent under a different number.
Given how successful Marvel been with loads of films and tv series set in the same world, I'm amazed they haven't already done a spin off, either following another 00 or any one of the numerous other agents they seem to have scattered around the world, but still working for M and helped out by Q. That way you get around any of the moaning about changing an existing character.
Even Daniel Craig says there should simply be better roles for women rather than re-writing existing characters.
Don't think James Bond movies particularly appeal to most women, these ones in my life hate them.
If you write it to make it appeal then it wont be James Bond and likely would be nearly as successful either.

There was a plan for a spin off with Halle Berry as Jinx, I think. Did the writer's strike end that?"The name's Bond, Jane Bond"
"How do you like your hair"?
"Straightened, not frizzy"
Some things shouldn't change, just as the Terminator can only ever be Arnie, 007 should always be a man.
Other 00 agents could be created that could be a woman, but not 007.
A female 00 could successfully appear alongside Bond, but not instead of.
I think Bond films are successful as most blokes secretly wish they could be someone like Bond.
If I was a female actress and was offered the part of 007 I'd be concerned that I'd only been offered it for the film makers to appear to be PC.
I wouldn't expect a female 007 film to have the same ticket sales.

If there’s a market for a female undercover agent, fine make a new franchise, but leave this franchise well alone
I think Atomic Blonde proved that a female spy movie could do well at the box office when done properly, so I think another franchise/character could be popular.Zoon said:
