Been doing my research and decided to look for a facelift RRS TD V8, not many around as the crossover of the facelift and the V* ceasing in the uK was less than a year.

Found a car that ticks most of the boxes - low owners (3), full service history, not ruined by tasteless tat, lots of work done recently, decent MOT history but mileage is a bit higher than I would have liked at 118k

Looking at the history it did its first 85k in its first 3 years and then 4-5k per year afterwards.

Am I right in putting history and condition before mileage?

If it's the racing green one on AutoTrader it looks tidy and the advert reads well. Go through the paperwork carefully and make sure their idea of FSH is the same as yours. By a process of elimination you should be able to figure out what hasn't been changed/replaced recently which will give you a clue as to what bills might appear down the line. I'd also get it inspected. But the mileage wouldn't put me off, it certainly reads like it has been looked after but see it in the flesh.

Yes, it is that one, got a long list of things I will be checking. The FSH is a good point, I know its got 10 stamps in the book but I will be hoping to see associated invoices too and looking for servicing consistent with age / mileage

Lovely looking car from the outside, be aware though that that particular interior colour is not nice, the wood especially looks very fake, this would be enough to have me move on and wait for a black interior. They also look terrible with the rear windows untinted but that at least can be rectified fairly cheaply.

More important than that is the fact that I see no mention in the advert of replacement turbos.
Unlike the V6, the V8 is a body off job to replace them and on the L320 it's a when not an if - various friends and colleagues over the years have had the TDV8 and whilst it's a lovely motor, the turbo fact alone (and the £5k repair bills) were enough to make me buy the TDV6 when I had an L320 a couple of years ago.

In addition to the turbos, look for maintenance / replacement of the usual L320 items - the electronic parking brake fails for a pastime and the proper fix is £1k, suspension compressors work hard so eventually need replacement (£700 or so) anti-roll bar bushes dry out and then squeak - (£250)

In short, they are a great vehicle, just remember they have running costs commensurate with their original purchase price. You may get lucky and not have to buy anything other than diesel, but don't bank on it.

Must admit the turbos are a point of concern. Personally I would not buy a RRS but this is my OHs car so its her choice, I am getting her to look at an F11 535d Touring which for a little more money just seems to be a better car in every area other than height of driving position

OK ,

See it now,

Sounds great, advert reads well, but personally, green isn't my colour.

The problem really is that if a turbo goes reputable specialists also will only fit new, genuine turbos, not remanufactured or aftermarket ones so just having both of those replaced is £5k, then there's so much labour cost involved in the replacement that you might as well do all the body-off jobs whilst you're there.

A colleague went all in and did all the other body-off jobs when one of his turbos failed and the total bill was only £500 less than I actually paid for my entire TDV6 (a 3yr newer car!)
To be fair though, his makes a much nicer noise lol
