Hip Hop that makes my ears bleed
Discussion
As an older guy, I still listen to radio 1 from time to time, so as to appreciate upcoming acts and keep abreast of the mainstream.
I've always disliked Hip Hop, and really can't see the point other than some urban poetry set to a rhythm.
I guess it's of no relevance to me, but I also can't see it being relevant to the vast majority of the mainstream audience.
However I can't deny that it is nonetheless popular for some unfathomable reason, but maybe that's a direct result of mainstream radio feeding it to us.
There now seems to be a new sub-genre that I find extremely offensive to the ears. (Anyone know if it has a name?)
This trend lays over vocal twerps, whoops, and other such nonsense to emphasis certain beats of the bar, but usually at random.
Also back vocals are electronically modularized in pitch to produce some cutesy baby-voice.
Current chart example is 'Wasted' by Digga D & ArrDee (it hurt to even write that!
).
Can anyone explain this trend to me and why it has any popularity at all?
