B4A or Andriod Studio
Discussion
Having installed B4A and had a play about with it I can see it would be very effective for quickly creating fairly straight forward applications. It seems to be more of a Development Environment rather than an “ app builder”, which is a good thing. For something more complex with some maths going on behind the UI will I after a month or so realise that I should have battled on with Andriod Studio ? B4A does seem to be easier to understand and less Google centric which is also a good thing
I'd been slowly working through Android Studio and in the early days it was fine. But as I got further into it I felt it was a bit heavy for my PC and asked on here what others used for development.
I forget who it was but someone on here suggested B4A, which I'd never heard of. I installed it and suddenly I had apps up and running.
The forum has been very helpful and so far I've not hit any barriers. I suppose it depends how complex your maths are but most of the stuff I've done (basic trig, fitting curves to data, etc) have been fairly painless to get up and running.
I've now got it alongside Visual Studio (VB) for anything I need on either W10 or Android and it's been easy to use SQLite to allow swapping .db files between them..

Basic4Android is excellent if you want to get something working. It can be as complicated as you want or as simple. It's gone on leaps and bounds since I started using it. I haven't been doing much App development recently but it's free now and I just can't see why you'd develop using anything else for Android.
Erel who created it is amazingly helpful and there are some fairly helpful users on the forum there as well.

Thank you. I will stick with it then. It seems so much better than Studio I felt there must be a catch.
There really isn't, it works so well and I've been using it for over 10 years now! It's improved massively over that time and might even have got to the point where Apps become 'portable' from Android to iOS...!It used to be a few hundred dollars for 2 or 3 years licence and even at that cost I used to more than cover the price with in App advertising.
The forum is a goldmine of information and there are extensions and so on available if you're not comfortable with doing them yourself.
