Hey car novice looking to buy a cheap run around.... worried about buying a lemon or being taken advantage of... dont know anyone that is good with cars to take along...

Plan on paying online and having the car dropped off.

Which of these would you think is the best/safest bet to order ? Feel free to suggest anything you find also in the same area.

Thanks.

I’d be leaning toward the Hyundai if everything is genuine.

I would err towards a hyundai, that said that Mazda isn't a bad shout.

Check MOT history for each and make sure main things like cambelts or major service items are done.

I would then be checking the reviews for each dealer as much as possible.

Hi thanks for the reply how do i check the cambelt etc has been done ? The dealer selling the Hyundai has a 6 month warranty does that sway things ?

Thy Hyundai looks the best of the lot but I suspect it's already been sold, the Mazda having been written off would put me off personally.

The Kia looks possibly okay; make sure you get some evidence of the service history before you commit, even if it's just photos of the service book, pay particular attention to when the cam belt was done, if at all.

Should really be written in the service book if it still exists!

Depends on the warranty tbh - if its a distance purchase, make sure it covers you for an independent garage and the small print around hourly rates.

Not the Mazda! The other two look fine. I think I'd pick the Kia as it newer, has a more powerful engine and looks more nicely specced.

This would be my recommendation too. Do delve into "google reviews" and anything else you can get your hands on for each of the sellers.

The Rios are nice little cars, I like them for what they are. Wouldn’t buy from a dealer with that name though, and would question why they’re at random locations - home traders? Are there any private sales nearby from trustworthy looking people?

Yes, this is certainly a market where I would be looking to buy from a little old lady called Doris who has had it from new and the handbook is fully stamped up by his/her local main dealer....

Out of the three the Kia Rio would get my vote, if you're going to get the car delivered to you why are you limiting your search locally surely you'd go & pick it up yourself if it's only 10 miles away?

I'd say lookout for the Vauxhall Astra they don't go wrong, along with the low maintenance costs they're a good starting point.

Personally I'd go & see the cars in the flesh & then pay for them, check the MOT History do a VCheck speak to the sellers & ask when it was last serviced/cambelt changed & by who.

Then you can cut the wheat from the chaff & narrow down what you want to see, when you get there make sure everything works if it doesn't assume it's broken (especially when it comes to A/C) & if there aren't receipts for work carried out, then assume it hasn't been done.

At a lower end budget I would tend to lean towards Honda, something like this:
