Listening to boris the deluded pm you see his modus operandi.
Just tell people what they want to hear with no relation to what is actually going on.
Next it will be your doctor. You will all like it as you skip out of the surgery with a 100% clear bill of health.
If you die you wont be around to complain. Perfect.

Was working for a Gov dept until i left again sick of the lies and bull in politics frown

Me and boss were talking about 'senior leadership team' just get given what they want to see so 'everything looks green'.
Like a RAG report they always want 'green' so got 'green' rather than 'orange'.
How can issues be fixed if they are not known about or fudged constantly for the 'right look'. frown

I think I've got a greater chance of a meeting with Boris than with my GP.

I think it was entirely deluded.

I've been a life-long conservative voter, I don't think Labour would have done much better , especially with the Covid crap going on, but I'm bitterly disappointed in what Conservatives have done and what they have to offer, Boris always has been a blithering idiot but usually has enough smarts to say the right thing time to time

What he said in his speech is ridiculous, honestly, he is not fit for PM, problem is, no-one is, Kier Starmer certainly isn't either

I'd love how we can fund 50,000 new nurses and however many hospitals that was promised
Band 5 (entry level) Nurse salary is £25k per annum
That's 1.25 Billion £ in Salary's, not accounting for any subsidies for University fees and so on
And Hospitals, to purchase ground, build, kit out, easily another 10 Billion

How is this going to be funded? People's income still isn't rising with inflation, we've all just had a tax increase, council tax will be going up, and with the upcoming energy price increases too, I just don't see how it's going to fiscally work out....

Might be the right thread to ask.....

Why are the government so sure inflation will rise to a peak of 4%, then fall back down? Everything seems to be going up, gas, petrol, house prices, wages....

I dont understand the mechanism by which it going to fall from 4% back down to 2% (possibly via raising interest rates....which will lead to a whole different set of problems). I dont think I'm being too uncharitable to suggest they don't know either.

As per thread title, tell us it will all be OK. And when it isn't, blame x y or z, despite it being blindingly obvious it wasn't going to happen in the first place

There's a story that sounds extremely familiar. Challenging obviously wrong status reports resulted in lengthy documents setting criteria for what's green what's Amber what's red.

The next such meeting was an absolute disaster as virtually every project appeared to have caught fire. I'll leave it to your imagination to guess whether the projects were fixed or the grading system was 'fixed'

The difference, Doreen, is your doctor isn't trying to get reelected.

If the government told the truth, the media would have a field day and people wouldn't vote for them.

Look what happened to Theresa May when she threatened to actually try and fund social care.

Quite.

You get the politicians you deserve etc.

Quite how the circle is broken: hmmm, not sure about that.

It will probably have to break before someone thinks to fix it.

The government can and will 'fix' the headline rate of inflation by changing what they measure to get the headline rate.

The same way we magic'd our way out of 2008 and Covid. Just print more money!

The general public hasn't seemed to have realised the link between (a) the money in our pocket becoming less valuable and (b) the gov keeps finding more billions to spend.

QE is taxation! Boris is loving it.
