2006 Vantage - Brake Discs & Pads

Hi,

Following a recent service at Aston Martin Leeds, they've advised I need new rear discs & pads on my 2006 Aston Martin Vantage. Struggling to get a decent price even from independent garages (coming out at approx £1,100 inc VAT).

I'm considering sourcing my own parts (Approx £250 inc VAT), and getting a garage to fit them. Has anybody done this in the past? If so, where did you get your parts & is there anything I should consider before choosing a garage to do the work? In my mind changing discs & pads is pretty straightforward so doesn't need to be done by a specialist? Happy to be corrected on this though as I may be being stupid!!

Hi. I also run a 2006 Vantage. Had the same issue as you. Was during covid lockdown & couldn't easily get the car to David Appleby.

I purchased OEM pads and discs from Autodoc and had my local garage fit them. They look after our Landie too and are very good.

Absolutely no issues other than they spotted the front brake pipes were pretty much gone, so ordered a new set from Astonbits. Charged about £250 labour all in, from memory.

Bear in mind that our vintage Aston isn't some sort of exotic like a Ferrari, basic things like brakes should be well within the capability of a decent garage.

Yes I have purchased my own discs and pads in the past and my local garage fits them for 90mins labour, about £90. No different to any other car really. I use the same local garage for 10 years for all the cars, MOT, tyres and occasional repairs. I have a Aston main dealer service every year or two depending on mileage but just get the basic fixed price service.

Last year the plugs were due and £250 from the dealer, bought online for £50 ish and did myself in an hour. I have changed the pads myself in the past. If you have the facilities and tools then its easy enough to DIY simple jobs.

Download the workshop manual, get an OBDII reader and you often solve many issues yourself.

Sorry for hijacking the thread. Could you please let me know which sparkplugs you bought and where? I am absolutely unable to find them, as the original NGK reference number is not available anywhere (besides Aston Martin itself, of course)

Sparkplugs here....but out of stock, have gone up a bit in price too, they were doing packs of 4 cheaper. https://www.gsparkplug.com/ngk-ifr7n10-97105-spark...

Thanks everyone - parts ordered for a fraction of the price, and opted for Brembo discs so not like it's all cheap knock off stuff! Makes me question the money I've spent on other cars in the past

You could try Jaguar as one of their plugs is the same.
