Civic tourer 1.8 vs accord Mk8 tourer 2.0
Discussion
Hi all,
Pondering over a change to an estate car, previously had a mk7 2.4 type s which was great. But they are a bit old and long in the tooth now (all rusty).
Looking at getting back into an estate, how do the two mentioned compare?
Both similar power, is the accord noticeably more refined?
Fuel economy seems to be okay in both, slightly better in the 1.8 but offset by the higher purchase cost.
Any advice appreciated - really I'd like to get into something more interesting but without going German (335i/S4 etc) and huge bills not much exists.
Also for the Mk8 accord I'd rather a 2.4, but they all have sunroofs due to only being EX spec which lowers the headroom to touching by head which I can't stand (only 6ft4!)
The 2.0 EX can be found with no sunroof as it was an option even on EX trim

I haven't had much experience with accords, but we have civic 1.8. I think these are fantastic value for money. Loads of storage, magic seats that either fold down or go up. Great gearbox, typical honda linear revving engine. Surprisingly quiet on longer drives. Does about 40mpg, but this all in London. It's not fast, but stupidly reliable. Only had to change consumables in last 3 years. I think 2.4 accord wouldn't give you much more in terms of room or driving experience, but it will be a lot more thirsty?
I ran a mk8 Accord tourer for a few years (a diesel ES GT) and found it to be more refined than the Civic a friend’s wife had.
They’re underrated cars in my opinion, mine was heavy on front tyres (10,000 miles appeared to be the limit of life regardless of brand) and absolutely nothing went wrong in the 30,000 or so miles I ran it for.
Load space is compromised by the intrusion of the rear suspension turrets but a bit of imaginative packing meant I never found that the boot was too small.

As an alternative have you looked at the 2.5 Mazda6, they're good cars with lots of head & legroom (6'7) decent on fuel lots of space:
