UFO has been shown on Freeview for years. Blakes 7 seems to be better than I remember but episodes are very hit or miss. Love the poster painted toilet roll/egg carton spaceships, wobbly sets and running around a quarry like kids playing at war.

Yep, loving Blakes7, though now I'm watching in my 50s, I very much realise that Blake was a pompous t××t.

Orac turned up this week! - bet Zen's pissed off!

Been watching UFO on Forces for the last couple of years on and off.

It's surprisingly dark for what was a kids' programme. Also there are a few episodes with very little alien involvement at all.

Favourite (I think) was the hippy episode.

Also look out for a young Steven Berkoff.

That was meant to be a kids show? yikes

Watched it on Forces too as it was one night and I happened to catch the first episode and was surprised it was pretty decent.

Quite odd realising it's almost 50 years old and made before I was born smile

laugh

Actually, looking it up it was initially aired at 11.00pm in 1970, but I do remember it being shown in the afternoon in the mid-'70s when I was a kid.

It's striking just how many episodes have a downbeat ending, I've been watching them again over the past couple of weeks and it still has its moments and I think still stands up very well five decades on. The budget was obviously a lot bigger than Blake's 7, I'm enjoying this too and had completely forgotten that Gan died so soon into the series.

From Wiki:

UFO confused broadcasters in Britain and the United States, who could not decide if it was a show for adults or for children. In the UK, the first episodes were originally shown in the 5:15pm 'tea-time' slot on Saturdays, and then on Saturday mornings during an early repeat, by both Southern Television — which began broadcasting UFO almost two months before the London area — and London Weekend Television. The fact that the Andersons were primarily associated with children's programming did not help matters. This confusion and erratic broadcast schedules are considered contributing factors in its cancellation, although UFO is credited with opening the door to moderately successful runs of later live-action, adult-oriented programming by Anderson such as The Protectors and Space: 1999.[citation needed]

5.15 'Tea-time slot' and Sunday mornings. heheeek

There was UFO2 planned but as US ratings dropped due to poor scheduling it was abandoned.
Considerable time, money and set design had already been invested, primarily a much improved and expanded Moonbase with incredibly cool sets.

This was then rebranded and provided the backdrop for Space:1999

I have them on DVD.

More 'hard' sci fi than the likes of space 1999, with a lot more ambiguity.

Yeah but I just see Funkydunk Bandersnatch.

Tessa Wyatt was in one too. I remember her from Robins Nest.

Anouska Hempel was in a few episodes too.

Joanna Lumley auditioned and did a screen test but didn't get the part, Gabrielle Drake got it instead.
