Fire Stick / Amazon account / Ring doorbell
Discussion
OK, I decided to replace my venerable first generation Chromecast with the new Fire Stick 4K Max. I didn't really use the Chromecast but thought it might be good for catch up TV and watching Prime subs, etc. rather than using the Bluray player. It's a 2012 TV so the Smart bit is a bit long in the tooth.
Looks really good so far, I gather today is "release day" so I am an early adopter!
A couple of things that I don't really understand.
My wife has an Amazon Prime account, it's full of kid's stuff, etc. I have an Amazon Prime account, Ring doorbell/Alexa Dot are registered to it. Looked into the joint account before and it looks a bit s
t so we left it.
Anyway, it seems there is no way to share both accounts on the device or switch between them. I can't help thinking this must be a fairly common scenario. So either we can watch the kid's stuff, or we can see the Ring doorbell alerts, but not both. Can that really be so? Alternatively s there any way of registering a Ring doorbell to more than one Amazon account?
Also the Live TV bit of it seems promising but doesn't really deliver - you can watch BBC channels live, for example, but only through the iPlayer app. I was hoping to see all the available to stream channels alongside each other on an EPG and be able to bin off freeview/freesat. Was I being naive...?
So depressing that all this home automation stuff is so amazing in some ways but so dumb in others - Apple, Google, & Amazon constantly f
king each other over all the time - understandable in some ways, but the consumer always loses...
