So today i am taking my beloved g12 7 series back to BMW and I’ll be driving home in a 2017 140i. I stopped by the showroom the other day whilst the mrs was buying a latte and, as a salesman myself, am the easiest person in the World to sell to.

The rep gave me a valuation on my 7 ( 2500gbp more than i paid for it 9 months ago) and i put a £500 deposit down before said mrs could finish her latte. She still doesn’t know what car i’m replacing it with.

If you’ve ever pined after a 7 series, do it. Dont bother with the swb or the 730 - get a lwb 740d or a v8. They are incredible cars and with the xdrive as a package, hard to find a better car. Driving a long journey, especially at night, with your favourite podcast playing is traveling nirvana.

My problem is, no matter the car, I get bored and that fact has cost me thousands over the years but on this occasion Im actually saving money for the first time in my life. The longest I ever owned a car was three years. A LR Freelander SD4! Still miss that car, actually.

So how long until I get bored or frustrated with the m140? Will it take a baby seat along with it’s base? Will the mrs download a dating app once she sees it?

Oh dear, would you fit in the boot of the 7 if that was your only driving position? If so, you will be ok in the 140 ;P

I am new to the whole BMW thing, but tried all of them when getting a 320 for the mrs last year and thought 1 series was tiny. Compare it with the 7, you may be buying your current car back before Xmas :P

But joking aside, congrats. Enjoy smile

Well here it is. Christ almighty it’s fast! The ride is very bouncy - should’ve gone for the adaptive suspension. Apart from that, loving it so far

Birds suspension is the way forward to cure bouncy ride. LSD at the same time is also recommended.

Yeah, the rear end is like a pogo stick. The springs on the 140 are super hard. Lots of people have had good experiences with M135 rear springs which are softer. The rear dampers are st too. Bilstein B8’s are cheap and easy to fit and make a decent difference.

Mine didn’t hang around too long. On paper it was perfect but the less I used it for stuff like commuting, the less I actually liked it.

Despite knowing the standard suspension's shortcomings I was shocked by mine.

Easily sorted though.

Quite a different proposition from a 7 though!

Just sold my G11 750i to a dealers, absolute beast of a motor and a pleasure to own (was top spec with lots of extras such as B&W, RSE, indivudual paint etc..). I lost money since buying it but doing high mileage and enjoying it so it did pick up a few battle scars. Wife has a 1 series (F20) and it's a hoon.

Saw a g12 in a rare colour drive in the opposite direction to me today and I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Mine was San Marino Blue, I do miss it I must say. Even more so when it did over 40mpg on long sensible journeys which is similiar to cars with a much smaller engine or powered by diesel.
