Pablo Escobar's 911 RSR
Discussion
It is for sale.
Article in Motor1 and link to the agent is in the article.

Driven by Emerson Fittipaldi and John Tunstall in IROC and IMSA respectively. Pablo kept the car until his death.
It is going to be expensive, over £1.5mil. Any thoughts about a lost kilo of powder some where in the bodywork can de dispelled. It has been restored by Roger Penske.

I wish I had my own private track and that car - awesome and its colourful provenance so cool
This, when I saw the CC listing I thought it's one of the coolest (if not THE coolest) 911s I've seen.
I have to admit I've never been a fan of the IROC rear spoiler, would prefer a 2.7 RS ducktail or the '75 3.0 Turbo item :

The reserve would have been up there, great cars proper lwt with a great motor.
Auctions are not the place to sell such cars really, its a bit of a esoteric car.
Escobar car collection also got torched from memory/history did it not, dont know what was in the collection at the time. The iroc was also a real mans turbo for some period of time, unlike a girly modern 4 wheel drive turbo;)

The last bid I saw on the CC auction before it ended was $880+K Paul. What's it worth realistically, double that ?Auctions are not the place to sell such cars really, its a bit of a esoteric car.

From what I've read, it's not the most original of examples, though I guess you could say the same of a lot of the 2.8 RSR's which were converted to '74 RSRs and then some years later (at the end of their racing lives ?) restored/converted back to 2.8 bodywork again ? The Garrard car springs to mind (and the Samson car ?)

I think it was at one of the major US auctions over the summer too. Been for sale since March it seems.https://www.hagerty.co.uk/articles/news-articles/t...
Dealer clearly knows a few journalists....and I assume the owner is desperate !
Makes you wonder what's wrong with it....wouldn't be the first time that a rare competition Porsche hasn't been what it has claimed to be....if that is the case.

I dont think you can assume its not correct unless you know, its dangerous territory!
If you get, want ,have a interest in early rsr, then you have to accept the histories of such cars, history Cant be replaced Or changed.
Then back to the old question of whats original, how the car started life or when porsche upgraded the following season, one things for sure they are original race cars

You would have thought its worth all of that,a proper engine is north of 150k£,most 2.8 got uprgraded,no different to todays rsr, mine was a 935 for a few years, even beat the factory 935.

The 1974 911 Carrera 3.0L RSR is Chris Harris' favourite car of all time, even more so than the CGT and 997.2 4L GT3 RS. Personally don't think its worth as much as those two cars put together for the same money. I dont think you can assume its not correct unless you know, its dangerous territory!

His favourite is I think the 2.8 RSR to look at but the 3.0 RS to drive.
I've heard a few people who should know say the 3.0 RS is the Daddy and luckily unlike the RSR they made 50 road cars. 900kg and 230 hp (I think are the numbers)....doesn't sound that exciting but it would be incredible to drive. Weight is everything....or rather lack of.

Come on all ,we know the daddy is the 2.8
,run mine on the road alot, its set up as a compromise of track and road,it grips a road like the latest rs,also lighter than the others.
Got it a bit dirty yesterday.

This is mine when it was rallying in 2.8 RSR spec back in 1975….whoever built those arches didn’t do as good a job as the factory did

Stunning cars….would love to know more !
I could write a book about both, each has a long race history. The yellow one aka 'Woodstock' is now in our hands and having a little preservation work done whilst we wait on the DVLA. The other aka 'Hulk' has now also been sold too, I do not know to who but last I heard that was UK bound too.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
