BMW X3 Runflats Tyres or Not?
Discussion
Hi all, I'm Gordon from Rustproofing Autocare and its great to join!
I have a 2016 BMW X3 2litre Diesel and bought it around a year ago. I purchased car with 2 new run flats fitted to front and 2 half worn on rear. At low speed and around test run they felt fine but afterwards on really driving the car I felt they were the worst ride quality i had ever experienced in over 30 years driving. I would probably go further and say dangerous.I drive 4x4s every day as a living and probably every type. Apart from the bone shaking ride experience if you hit any pot hole or drove on any sunken LGV ruts in road it bounced or ran along the tracks embedded on road regardless of comfort or sport setting. Fuel consumption was around 34 travelling at average of 25mph. I was considering changing car but decided to try changing out runflats for 4 new Continental "all weather" tyres after hearing all kind of conflicting advice. Seriously, best thing I have ever done because now the X3 handles like a dream and feels so smooth and quiet on the road surfaces. X3 now handles so much better and I would seriously say change them when you can. Okay I get that you now need to carry a pump and filler kit but hey £25 so well worth the 43 mpg it's now returning with new tyres. Above all though from a safety point of view its worth it.

What load rating are the NRFT's
I've always found the handling much worse as its generally tuned for the stiffer sidewalls of the runflats, (even high load NRFTS arent as stiff), steering is more vague and squirmy under load. (depends how you drive i guess)
Ride is marginally better but the reason you X3 rides awfully is that..........its awful anyway
