They’ve plugged it a few times in last week or so, repeatedly showing the empty water aisle after their enjoyment with the petrol crisis, and now claiming that panic buying is back and ruining christmas. I mean we know they’re a disgrace, but their persistent cycle of doom monger stories is really taking the biscuit now.

Or this type of article makes them cash? People who hate it link to it and create a fuss, people who like it link to it and create a fuss. Job done.

"News" is not informing people and digging type journalism on the whole anymore. It is basically entertainment business, a bit like a st Channel 5 'debate' show or Question Time.

It is like the local 'Live' news website probably near you, they are currently pumping ste questions on Facebook - purely to get engagement from those who answer them, and those who kick off about how piss it is, as it helps the hashtag numbers.

Tabloids doing anything for clicks shocker!(or not)

Let’s see if our general population are intelligent,
Rational people. If so, purchasing habits won’t change.

OR

People are panic buying morons who will be out queueing for pasta and toilet roll before the weekend is out.

They really will peddle anything to get a few clicks regardless of the chaos they cause

The supermarket shortage isn't any more than the fake fuel shortage or HGV driver shortage.

They might always have done ‘anything for clicks’, but to be honest they weren’t this bad. In the last (few?) years they’ve definitely got worse and worse. Do you remember they always used to be filled with a million Royals / Diana stories which to be honest no one gives a st about. Those stories are pretty minor these days and they’ve moved onto these much more harmful pieces that actually affect day to day lives.

Not sure things have changed much. The general public just care less about what Cool Wills has done and more about their own food/paper supply.

Nothing wrong with that in itself. It’s just depressing that so many people are stupid enough to buy into this nonsense.

Agreed. They're not only just taking the biscuit(s) figuratively now. It's pretty fked up 'journalism'. Sadly there'll be a lot of people reacting to this sort of st and fking it up for everyone else.

That article is a blatant attempt to cause panic buying.

The editor of the daily mail was replaced with a Remainer post Brexit vote and it should be of no surprise that they are serving large corporate interests in the struggle over the post-Brexit settlement.

I don't think Geordie Greig has changed the DM's editorial stance very much. Still pretty much a must find a panic a day for the headlines type of paper.

I agree that they'd love to whip the panic up though.

To be fair Jag, you're being as bad as them if you insist on qualifying their journalism on the basis of whether the editor was a remain or leave supporter. It's not as if it was drastically different under either editor.

Some friends of ours read the DM like a bible and quote every article as though it is the undisputed truth. I'm not sure why they are our friends.

Panic or Royal Family. At least it is better than the Express, that remains obsessed over Diana.

The Mail does serve a purpose though - it is a 2 second check as to whether anything material has happened in the world. As long as Prince Harry is the lead story, all is quiet.

By reading their articles, you are helping them make money.

By linking to their articles, you are driving more traffic to their site, which helps them make money.

Both actions just encourages them to publish more of the same tripe.

Why does anyone think this is - or try to portray it as - unique to the Daily Mail? They are all the same.

Unless this is just an attempt to drive traffic to the DM?

Every paper is chasing eyeballs for their advertisers. I have no problem with that and as long as you read with that filter in place some make the odd good point. I'm not sure I believe that a bunch of idiots are believing every word, I don't believe they do, but there's a large cohort who want confirmation bias.

On the mail not being the only one spreading FUD, that's true, but doesn't validate the mail's commentary.
